  “A week before Thanksgiving.”

“Why did you break his nose?”

  He shrugged. “Talked some shit…”

About me, probably. “Deacon, he could sue you for assault.”

“You think I care?” he asked coldly. “I’d settle. It’d totally be worth it. And he’d look like a pussy if he did that—which would make it even better.”

I’d forgotten that billionaires didn’t have problems like everyone else. Being sued for tens of thousands of dollars was no big deal. “Deacon, you still didn’t have to do that…” I could easily picture what happened because I knew Jake so well. He saw Deacon, got pissed off, and made some jackass comment.

“I really had no control over the situation. That’s never happened to me before. It was the first and only time in my life when I simply didn’t think. My fist slammed into his face before I took my next breath.”

I wished Jake would move out of the building. It would eliminate the problem altogether.

“I’m not letting an asshole talk shit about my woman.”

  “What did he say?”

He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. I don’t believe anything he has to say.”

I was touched by the loyalty, touched by the fearless way he trusted me, even when I’d screwed everything up. “I’m sorry that happened.”

“I’m sure it won’t happen again. He got his ass handed to him, so…”

I smiled. “Yeah, I bet.” I couldn’t picture Deacon being the physical type, to throw a punch like that. He didn’t even seem like someone who knew how to fight. “You didn’t get hurt, right?”

He shook his head. “I hit him in the perfect spot, broke his nose, sent him to the floor… That was pretty much it. That’s why you shouldn’t fuck with a doctor. Because I know how to break shit so another doctor can’t fix it.”

“Thanks for…looking out for me.” I didn’t want him to get in trouble or cause problems, but I did appreciate the fact that he’d protected me, that he’d done something instead of just standing there. His feelings for me were enough to make him not think.

He nodded. “I’ll always defend you, whether you’re there or not.”

When Deacon put Derek to sleep that night, I went into our bedroom and opened my suitcase. Wrapped in a t-shirt was the lingerie I’d bought, a black teddy, garters, and black stockings. I’d owned a few pieces of lingerie in my life but never anything this extravagant. I wasn’t the sexy woman who strutted the runway and showed off her perfection. I was more on the demure side, more on the self-conscious side. But I wanted to do something different…and hoped Deacon liked it.

I went into the bathroom, put everything on, then teased my hair to make it big, and reapplied my makeup. I didn’t bother with the heels since I wore them enough as it was. It was nice to be barefoot for once.

Deacon’s voice floated into the bedroom. “Baby?”

I didn’t expect him to come in so soon. I wanted to pose on the bed when he walked in the door. Now that my plan was ruined, I was a little flustered, my confidence waning. “I’ll be out in a second…”

Deacon didn’t respond. His footsteps were audible, moving around the bed as he undressed and got ready to go to sleep.

I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before I forced myself to get out there.

I opened the door and stepped into the bedroom.

Deacon stood in his boxers next to his nightstand, doing last-minute things on his phone, his handsome face blanketed with the blue light as he finished typing his message. Then he swiped it onto do not disturb and set it on the nightstand. When he turned back to me, his reaction was instant, his jaw slackening in a purely shocked expression. His eyes immediately dropped from my face, moving down over my slender waist and to the garters that attached to my stockings. Like the image overloaded his mental faculties, he stared, unable to process the sight before him.

That chased away all my shyness. Now I felt beautiful, not like I was trying too hard. He liked it, so I liked it, and that confidence allowed me to walk to him, my curled hair down over my shoulders and chest.

His eyes were still down, looking at my body, darkening like he had one thing on his mind. His black boxers tightened, and the outline of his dick was instantly noticeable, because he went from soft to hard in five seconds.

My hands touched his bare chest, my eyes on his lips.

He lifted his gaze and looked at me, his hands immediately gripping my waist and giving me a squeeze, hard and aggressive.

I moved into him and pressed my lips to his, giving him a gentle embrace, a seductive kiss even though he’d clearly had enough foreplay just from looking at me.

Instantly, his hand was in my hair, his other hand gripping my ass. He moved me backward, kissing me hard, breathing deeply into my mouth with an audible moan. He was aggressive and forceful, like a man who just wanted to fuck as soon as possible.

That was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to feel sexy, not beautiful. I wanted to feel like a hot piece of ass, a woman he wanted to fuck like he didn’t give a damn about her. I loved it when we made love, but I knew he was a man who wanted more, a man who wanted to fuck me like a whore he paid a fortune to screw.

He guided me back to the bed then lifted me onto the edge of the mattress. He quickly pushed his boxers over his length, letting his throbbing cock come free, the thick vein running up the base, his crown swollen and anxious.

He grabbed my hips, dragged my ass over the edge, and then gripped my inner thighs, pressing them back and opening my legs, folding me until I was in the perfect spot so he could fuck hard and fast.

When I was in the right position, his dick slammed inside, a moan coming from his lips.

I whimpered slightly but swallowed it, staying quiet even though Derek’s bedroom was on the opposite end of the house.

He fucked me deep and hard like I expected, looking down at me like he owned me, like he possessed my body and could do whatever the fuck he pleased. “Baby…fuck.” He bucked his hips at an incredible pace, slamming into me and making his balls tap against my ass every single time. “Fuck, this is good pussy.”

My fingers gripped his wrists, and I felt my body shake forward and back, my tits shifting in the lace, my lips pressing tightly together to stay quiet even though I’d never been fucked this hard in my life. I bit my bottom lip and just took it, listening to him breathe hard and grunt. Watching the way he wanted me, seeing the way he desired me and loved me at the same time, sent me into a climax that made my eyes water, my throat drowning in the moan I tried to suppress.

He gripped my hips and ass and kept me in place as he kept going, his body working up a sweat because he fucked me with incredible speed and endurance. The muscles of his eight-pack became tighter, and his skin had a slight tint of red because of all the blood pumping. He reached up without breaking his stride and tugged the top of the teddy down, setting my tits free. Then he came with a groan, as if his son was completely forgotten. He pressed himself inside me fully, making me wince as he dropped his load. He filled me until he was finished then abruptly pulled out. “Turn over.”

I barely had time to process what he said. The command was so authoritative. It didn’t even sound like him.

He grabbed my hips and started to force me. “Show me that ass, baby.”

I rolled onto my stomach and got on my hands and knees.

He was still hard because he shoved himself inside me, making me cry out. Then he pumped into me with the same aggression, pounding into me ruthlessly. His hand went to the back of my neck, and he forced my face into the mattress, making my ass raise higher into the air, making my back arch even farther.

I’d never been fucked like this in my life, and damn, I liked it.

He kept my head pinned down and moaned through the entire thing, giving me his whole length with each thrust. “This ass is mine…all mine.”

Deacon was flat on his back, his hand gripping my hips as I rode him
up and down. We’d woken up late because we’d been up so long last night, but we tried to sneak in a morning screw before the day started. I was still in my lingerie because I had been too tired to take it off, so I rode his length, looking at the sexiest man in the world underneath me, his hard cock making me permanently wet.

Then a knock sounded on the door. “Dad?” Derek tried the door, but thankfully, it was locked. “Cleo? Why aren’t you guys up yet?”

I instantly stopped moving, mortified Derek was at the door.

Deacon closed his eyes and sighed, irritated that our sexy morning had been ruined. “We’ll be right there.”

He tried the door again. “I’m hungry.”

“And I said I’d be right there,” he said more forcefully. “Just give me a minute.”

“Why?” he asked. “What are you doing?”

I tried to get off his lap.

Deacon held me still. “Pack up your things so we can leave after breakfast. I’m going to check to see if you got everything.”

  Derek finally left.

He sighed loudly. “He’ll understand when he’s older…” He started to move my hips harder, trying to get us to finish as quickly as possible.

My arousal had been destroyed, but he managed to get it back, rubbing my clit with his fingers. I came within a minute, shutting my mouth tightly so I wouldn’t make a sound. He followed me a second later, finishing in silence.

When reality returned, I rolled out of bed and stripped off the lingerie and shoved it into my bag.

Deacon pulled on his sweatpants and a t-shirt. “I’ll make him breakfast. You pack.”

“Alright.” I grabbed my clothes and started to stuff everything inside.

He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my naked body before he kissed my shoulder. “I want a collection of lingerie hanging in my closet by the end of the week.” He grabbed my ass and squeezed it as he kissed my neck. “All black.” He spanked me before he walked off.

I smiled to myself, my cheeks slightly red. “You got it.”

We left the cabin and headed back to the city.

“I don’t want to go…” Derek pouted. “This is my favorite place in the whole world.”

I wrapped my arm around his shoulders and gave him an affectionate squeeze. “We’ll come back. And don’t forget, you have school tomorrow. You love school.”

  “Yeah…true.”

“And when the weather is nice again, we’ll go fishing. Just have to be patient.”

Deacon was on his phone, responding to emails with his eyes glued to the screen.

I noticed he hardly worked around me anymore, unless it was in the car. When I came home from work, he usually put his laptop aside and gave me all his attention. The pile of work that needed his attention was probably the same, but he obviously thought Derek and I were more important since he’d brought us on this trip.

We headed back to the city then got into the elevator once we arrived at the building.

“How long am I going to stay with you?” Derek asked.

Deacon slipped his phone into his pocket, sighing at the thought of his ex-wife. “Not sure.”

“I don’t want to go back to Mom’s,” Derek said from in between us.

Deacon sighed again. “I don’t want you to go back either…” The doors opened, and we headed to the residence. When we stepped inside, it’d been cleaned by the maid, so it didn’t seem like Thanksgiving had been hosted just days ago. The silverware and dishes had been packed up, and the serving dishes and bowls had been placed in storage.

Derek went into his room with his things.

Deacon pulled out his phone and stared at the screen. “I guess I should call Valerie…”

I really had no idea what to do. I’d been surprised she hadn’t blown up his phone over the weekend. “Maybe you should wait for her to call you.”

He shrugged. “No matter what I do, I lose.” He hit the button on the screen and made the call.

She answered, her voice audible. “Yes?”

“I can keep Derek as long as you want, but I wanted to know if you’d like him back since I’ve had him all weekend.” He couldn’t control his tone, hide his annoyance. Now that he didn’t have to, he probably had no reason to keep his civility. He just got to the point of the conversation, keeping it short and simple.

“Who the fuck do you think you are?”

Both of his eyebrows rose as she screamed over the phone. “Alright…I’ll keep him.”

“You assault my boyfriend in the fucking lobby?” she snapped. “I’ve wanted to rip Cleo’s eyes out once or twice, but I’ve never actually done it.”

She was a prime example of a toxic person, someone who was unable to have any kind of normal life. Everything was dramatic. Everything was chaos. If a situation was perfect, she sabotaged it.

“If he didn’t want me to kick his ass, he shouldn’t have spoken to me,” Deacon said calmly. “I won’t apologize for it. Couldn’t care less.”

  “This is unacceptable, Deacon—”

“It’s over. I’m tired of you blaming every little thing on me. He provoked me by talking shit, which I’m sure he omitted from his version of the story, but I really don’t care anyway. We only talk about Derek from now. Text me when you want him back, and I’ll drop him off.”

  “Deacon—”

  He hung up.

  I wanted to clap.

He shoved his phone into his pocket.

  “That’s progress.”

“I never want to go to court with her and put Derek through that, but at least I have a chance if I have to. If she pushes me, I’ll do it. But I imagine she won’t. Hopefully, she focuses her energy on this new relationship and stops focusing on the one she had with me.”

I was really tired of Valerie’s presence in our relationship. If she didn’t exist, our lives would be so simple. It would be like staying at the cabin every single day. Just peaceful. No drama. No chaos. “Give it time.”

Derek stepped out of the hallway. “Were you talking to Mom?”

  I turned to Deacon.

  “Yes,” he answered.

“Do I have to go back?” Derek asked.

  He shook his head. “No.”

Derek threw both hands in the air. “Yes!” Then he went back to his room.

Deacon sighed as he dragged his hand down his face. “I don’t want my son to hate his mother, but it’s her doing. So, whatever.”

  “You tried…”

He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer from the fridge. “Honestly, I think you’re a better mother figure for him than she could ever be.” He leaned against the counter and twisted off the cap.

It was a great compliment, but it also made me sad, because that wasn’t how it should be. I had no experience…and I wasn’t his mother. But I loved him like my own, would give up my life to save his.

“And sometimes…” He let his words trail away. “Never mind.”

“You wonder if she even loves him…”

He bowed his head like he was ashamed of even thinking it.

“She tricked me into getting pregnant to control me, and now that she can’t use him to control me…I just worry how that relationship will be. Will he be useless to her? I have to believe she does love him, but it seems like he’s just a bargaining chip to her.”

I noticed those same things too. She was a mother, but she didn’t enjoy doing anything with him, taking him anywhere. All she cared about how she could use him to get to Deacon. It was such a terrible thing to think, and I didn’t want it to be true either. Derek deserved more than that.

He took another drink of his beer then set it down. “I have some work to do. Do you mind making dinner?”

I was surprised at the request because he never asked me to do anything. But it also felt really nice, to be viewed as an equal partner, to ask me for help when he needed it. “Sure. I’ll get Derek in his pajamas and brush his teeth afterward.”

“Thanks, baby.” He moved to me and kissed me on the corner of the mouth before he turned away. He grabbed another beer before he walked out of the kitchen and to the dining table. He pulled out his laptop and paperwork and got to work, like he wasn’t the least bit concerned about the responsibility he’d just given me. On his left wrist was the watch I gave him, a cheap contrast to the more expensive things he usually wore, but he still wore it proudly…and that meant the world to me.

  Five

  Cleo

I worked at my desk in the lobby, my earbuds in my ears so I could take phone calls while continuing to work.

When someone approached my desk, I lifted my eyes.

And I saw Jake standing there, his face still bruised even though more than a week had passed since he’d initially gotten his injury.

I was quiet because I had no idea what else to do.

He stared me down like he expected me to speak first.

  “Yes?” I asked, mildly annoyed.

“You better tell your boy to back the fuck up.”

I listened to the threat and felt my blood start to boil, felt the indescribable rage take hold. Without thinking, I was on my feet, staring down the man who had been so close to claiming my heart before I’d found out he was an adulterer. “If you want to continue living here, I suggest you shut your mouth.”

He obviously hadn’t expected me to fire back with my own threat because his eyebrows rose. “Like you have any power to change that.”

“Oh, but I do.” My hands flattened against the desk, and I leaned forward. “I run this place like a commander in the armed forces. My boss pockets a fortune every month because of my hard work. If there’s a conflict of interest, you think he’s gonna choose some whiny tattletale who always complains? Or the woman who makes him a shitload of cash?” I opened my drawer and pulled out a sample of the contract he’d signed when he moved in. “You must have skimmed through the contract, because my boss has the right to force eviction in the event of a conflict of interest. This threatening behavior toward Deacon and me is considered a conflict of interest. So, your ass will be gone.” I sat back in my chair and looked at my computer.
